Louisville.- The winner of the Kentucky Derby Mage will participate in the 148th edition of the Preakness after an encouraging training session at Churchill Downs, the co-owner announced.

Mage jogged the mile and a half brisk walk with exercise jockey JJ Delgado on a cloudy morning Friday. Co-owner and agent Ramiro Restrepo said the filly was “buoyed” with good energy levels following her most recent training session since winning the 149th Kentucky Derby and paving the way for her to enter the second meeting of the Kentucky Derby. “He had a great week of training,” said Restrepo, who co-owns with Chase Chamberlain, co-founder and race director of CMNWLTH. “(Coach) Gustavo Delgado (Jr.) was happy, over the moon, with how he has recovered.”

Mage is coming off a one length win over Two Phil’s in the Derby. He is a descendant of Good Magic and Puca, winner of the 2008 Derby; and Big Brown, winner of the Preakness.

Mage will participate in the 3/16 mile in the Preakness on May 20, just two weeks after she ran the 1/4 mile in the Derby in 2:01.57.

He will hold another workout on Saturday before traveling to Baltimore for another workout on Monday. Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano, who won his first Derby after 16 attempts, will ride the filly again.
