Kim Kardashian (42) was THE eye-catcher at this year’s Met Gala in New York. But then luck rolled off her. But from the beginning.
La Kardashian walked the white, red and blue striped carpet in a stunning dress made of 50,000 freshwater pearls, perfectly strung together by Italian fashion label Maison Schiaparelli biggest night of fashion.
The motto this year: A tribute to the great Karl Lagerfeld (†85).
“I just wanted pearls. I thought: ‘Nothing is more Karl than pearls?’. I had to think of his iconic Chanel outfits,” Kim told Vogue of her outfit.
Making the fumble was hard work. Twelve designers worked over 1000 hours on Kim’s gown to perfect the look. They lined up 50,000 freshwater pearls and processed 16,000 crystals. What a gem!
But then Kim’s luck rolled off…
Already on the way to Gala popped the first pearls out of the row.
“Some slipped out and I told my daughter to grab them. After all, they are real pearls. She kept them in her purse,” Kim told Vogue.

Her appearance on the carpet is radiant and perfect, as one would expect from Kim used to is. The cameras can’t get enough of her.
But on the way back the mess. When she gets out of the car, her high heel gets tangled in the chain arrangement. A few cords break and the precious pearls fall to the ground…

Other celebrities would probably have sweat beads on their foreheads. Not Kim. Stoic and very professional, she strides towards the hotel with her tattered dress. How can you stay so cool?
