If the new tribute to Elizabeth II was particularly appreciated, several titles also salute the much more social side of this speech.

A long-awaited speech. This Saturday for his first Christmas message as monarch, King Charles III once again, from St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, paid tribute on Sunday to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II. The sovereign said he shared with “all his heart” his mother’s faith in God and humanity.

Wishes which also took on a much more social aspect, while the United Kingdom is facing a major crisis. He praised the military and emergency services, “who work tirelessly” for the country’s security.

“King of Hearts”

In general, the sovereign’s exit convinced the press across the Channel, which nevertheless has the rightful reputation of having a hard tooth. On the side of the tabloids, The Sun reserves its front page for Charles, whom he describes as “King of hearts”, to understand the “king of hearts”.

The monarch indeed mentioned the “anxiety” and “hardship” of those who face war, hunger or natural disasters as well as those “here who are looking for ways to pay their bills or feed and heat their families.”

The daily also welcomes the tribute paid to Elizabeth II.

For its part, the Daily Mail salutes the king’s “message of hope and love” and also insists on the moving tribute of a son to his deceased mother. On the other hand, the British tabloids have, it seems, not pointed out the fact that the king did not mention the case of Harry and Meghan.

Social wishes

The more general media have for their part poured out on the social side of the king’s speech. Thus, the Daily Telegraph simply took up one of the passages of this speech in order to title its front page of the day: “I sympathize with the families who are suffering”, is it written.

“Her Majesty took advantage of her first Christmas message to show her sympathy with those who are struggling with the bills”, can we still read.

Finally, the very serious Times points to “the gift” given to health personnel on strike by the king by evoking their case. Since mid-December, British nurses observe unprecedented strike with walkouts in many sectors.
