As we know, information does not stop multiplying, so the need for professionals who have knowledge about Big Data and Data Science. It is expected that by 2025, 463 exabytes of data will be created every day around the world.
In the current context, data is one of the most valuable resources because without them it is impossible to maintain the competitiveness of companies, say experts.
In interview for The EconomistCarlos Vargas, professor at the EGADE Business School of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, considered that the skills required for professionals are changing, so it is necessary to continue updating and acquiring new useful knowledge for the world of work.
Young people who decide to study this type of skills (big data, artificial intelligence) will generate competitive advantages, the required skills are changing, so it is necessary to be up to date on all these relevant topics”, he indicated.
“People who take advantage of these issues, learn it, understand it and incorporate it into their skills that they will offer to the world of work will have Better opportunities and this will eventually also allow the work to change and things that might have been a little more tedious before can now be done a little more automatically”.
Data Science
Currently having knowledge about the use of Data Science generates a professional demand through which it is possible to extract large amounts of information that is used for decision making. It should be noted that data science combines disciplines such as statistics, mathematics and computer science to be able to interpret and process the information.
Data science is present in our lives at all times, even if we don’t realize it: when we do a google Search, when a platform recommends a movie to us or when our social networks show us recommendations according to our profile, this is due to the information that we previously offered to the technological universe.

The EGADE Business School professor explained that tools such as Big Data will generate a change in the labor sectorsince professionals will now also be able to focus on priority activities that generate a greater impact.
“Beyond the fact that there is a reduction or some affectation in terms of the work that exists, what we are experiencing is a change from some activities to others that will have a greater innovation, greater creativity,” he said.
Artificial intelligence
Although having skills related to the Artificial intelligence It still seems like an activity that is just beginning to evolve, it is increasingly generating more value for many sectors.
According to the specialist, different industrial revolutions have changed the way we understand work, money, information and knowledge. And now, artificial intelligence is the next industrial revolution and from now on decisions will be based on the data they generate and other types of algorithms or dynamics.
“The way of understanding and doing many things will no longer be the same. Artificial intelligence leads us to rethink what creates value in the world in which we live. The value of generating ideas or content, without a doubt, will no longer be the same as it was until now”.
It should be noted that until not long ago, most schools that offered programs to become an expert in Big Data focused mainly on the analytical and technological part, training professionals with mathematical and statistical profiles. However, business schools have begun to offer this training with a more business naturewhich allows professionals who come from engineering or business administration to develop as experts in Big Data.
Finally, Carlos Vargas recognized that the tools around Artificial Intelligence will be so powerful that will define our futurecoming to present both opportunities and risks.
“On the one hand, it can enrich or facilitate our activities, but since its access and control may be limited for many people, there is a huge risk of further segregation resulting in greater social differences, which must be vigilant.”
