Gregor Kobel has been regularly associated with FC Bayern since mid-November. According to media reports, the German record champion sees the 25-year-old as a suitable successor for the currently injured Manuel Neuer (36).
In an interview with ‘Bild’, however, Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl rules out the possibility that Kobel will serve up at Bayern in the near future: “In the next two years, nonsense, definitely (a change, editor’s note).” Kehl executes his change veto: “Gregor still has a contract until 2026. He’s too important for us.”
The ‘kicker’ reported in mid-January that Kobel would not become a specific topic on Säbener Straße until 2024 at the earliest. Whether the track in the direction of the Swiss actually hardens is at least questionable.
Kahn & Kobel know nothing
Bayern boss Oliver Kahn told Sport Bild at the end of January: “I have no idea where these rumors are coming from. I never commented on the performance and the player Gregor Kobel.”
And Kobel himself told ‘Sport1’ at the beginning of December that he hadn’t even heard of the rumours: “No, and that’s not of interest to me either. I play for Dortmund and we have big plans for BVB. That’s all I care about.”
As of now, Borussia can count on their number one for the next few years. The four-time international has been in the box for the Black and Yellows 20 times in all competitions this season and has kept nine clean sheets.
