As part of the agreement between Shonda Rhimes and Netflix to create new content, a new title is coming to the streaming platform. Is about The Residence, a new murder mystery show from Rhimes and his production company Shondaland. The production has announced that this project will be joined by Kylie Minogue, as well as actors Jane Curtin, James Babson and Paul Fitzgerald.
It has been revealed that the Australian singer will play herself and join the previously announced cast of Uzo Aduba, Andre Braugher, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mary Wiseman, and Randall Park.
Using Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House as a starting point, the eight-episode series is described as: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. A corpse. A wildly eccentric detective. A disastrous state dinner. The Residence is an idiot who finds himself upstairs, downstairs, and in the back of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.” The series is currently in production.
The entertainment platform detailed that Minogue will play herself in the drama. Curtin (The spy who planted me) plays Nan Cox, the first mother-in-law. Babson (Criminal Minds) plays Daryl Armogeda, an operations supervisor. Coupe (pivoting) will play Margery Bay Bix, a junior senator from Colorado. Izzy Diaz (good trouble) will play Eddie Gomez, a carpenter. Paul Fitzgerald (Veep) plays President Perry Morgan.
Montane (the lost symbol) plays Dana Hammond, Chief of Staff to President Morgan. Lovejoy (The Good Place) plays Alden Tamridge, the Australian ambassador. Losada (The Geeks) plays St. Pierre, an energetic medium. Restrepo (griselda) plays Elsyie Chayle, a White House housekeeper. Rodriguez (The last man on earth) plays Bruce Geller, a White House engineer. Tucker (Dynasty) plays David Rylance, the Australian Foreign Minister.
Paul William Davies is the showrunner and executive producer of The Residence. Shonda Rhimes will executive produce through her Shondaland banner alongside Betsy Beers. The company is currently under an umbrella agreement with Netflix. Davies also has a contract with the streaming company. Liza Johnson will direct the first four episodes. Davies and Rhimes previously collaborated on the ABC legal drama for the people, which he created and was produced by Shondaland. He was also a writer for scandalshow that Rhimes created.
