The Municipality shared a series of useful tips so that people from La Plata who decide to travel to tourist destinations with animals do so comfortably and safely.

It is important to take care of them not only to guarantee their quality of life, but also the health of the entire community.”, highlighted the director of the Municipal Center for Animal Health and Zoonoses of the local Ministry of Health, Dolores Oliva De Losa. The official stated that “if they share the holidays with us as if we leave them with someone else, they must enjoy adequate attention at all times”.

In this sense, from the Municipality they recommended a prior consultation with the primary veterinarian and another with the transport company to be hired (in case of moving with third parties) to find out their requirements and conditions. In the case of those who decide to travel abroad, each country presents its own requirements and the current legislation of each territory must be consulted, it was specified.

In addition, it is important that families ensure that animals are moved using the correct restraint method, such as a seat belt, leash, collar, identification tag and, if necessary, a muzzle.

On the other hand, the communal area stressed that the dogs and cats in question must have the anti-rabies vaccination and deworming up to date (prior to the date of the trip so that they do not eliminate parasites at the destination) and with the booklet that certifies it. .

It is important to highlight that you should never take them without a leash because there is a possibility that they will become disoriented and get lost, and that, if the trip is very long, it is essential to make intermediate stops so that they can relieve themselves.

They have to travel in the back seat of the vehicle and it may be useful to leave a toy or item of common use nearby”, explained Oliva de Losa, adding: “Permanent ventilation must be available and they must not be left alone at any time”.

THOSE WHO STAY

In case of not taking the animals on vacation, the Commune suggests leaving them in their own homes in the care of a trusted person instead of remaining in a place they do not know.

In addition, as it is a period of high temperatures, it is urged not to expose them to heat or direct sun and to take walks early in the morning or when the sun goes down, always guaranteeing good hydration.

On the other hand, it is necessary to avoid requiring them to perform physical activity on hot days and, in case of going to a beach, it is recommended that they remain in the shade, with a wet tarpaulin and in damp sand, since dry sand can burn your toes.

In turn, the families in charge must carry bags to clean their excrement on public roads, change the water in the drinking fountain twice a day and make sure that they have shaded spaces if they spend a few hours in temporary accommodation.
