The level of international travelers that arrived in the country, finally reached the amount registered pre-pandemic. This has already been verified in March 2023, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

In the third month of this year, 2,447,017 travelers from other countries arrived in the country, while in the same period of 2019, before the pandemic took place, there were 2,349,787 people.

Unlike other months, in March of this year travelers who entered the country by land, mainly from the United States, also reached pre-contingency levels.
Travelers arriving by plane had already been fully recovered for months, reaching what was observed in 2019.

Mexico recovered its tourism faster than other countries, because the government did not impose restrictions on the arrival of foreign travelers.

In international reports, the country even ranked second among nations that received the most international travelers.

This was due to other countries placing restrictions on international flight arrivals to prevent further spread of infections.

In 2019, before the pandemic, Mexico ranked seventh in international travelers, according to data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In this way, the international tourists that Mexico received grew 5.1 percent in March 2023, compared to the 2 million 327 thousand 565 travelers who arrived in the same period of 2022.

Meanwhile, the economic benefit that these travelers left in Mexico in the third month of this year also reported an annual increase of 7.3 percent, to 2,712 million dollars.

The levels of the foreign exchange that foreign travelers leave had already recovered to those shown before the pandemic.
