Chihuahua.- The president of the State Human Rights Commission (CEDH), Néstor Armendáriz, urgently called on the federal government to reactivate the migration stations, since of the three that were in the entity, one was on the border –where the tragedy occurred– , another in the municipality of Chihuahua and a third in Janos, all of which are currently closed and under review by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) at the request of the National Migration Institute (INM).

If it is not opened, a bottleneck of immigrants would form, he explained.

“According to the data we have,” Néstor Armendáriz explained, “in the state of Chihuahua there are three immigration stations, two of which are provisional and that is Ciudad Juárez, where the unfortunate events occurred, and in the from the city of Chihuahua, located on Calle Cuarta”.

With the minimum requirements

There is a third center in Janos, which is considered an immigration stay and met the minimum requirements.

The president of the CEDH acknowledged that the state has temporarily provided some facilities to take migrants, such as in the Jiménez area, but none of these can be considered a migration or provisional station that meets all the requirements.

“Yes, these instances are definitely very necessary because two functions are fulfilled there, on the one hand, people must remain when they are subject to some administrative procedure, as well as verify the migratory quality.

But also if some migrants need some help to request immigration regulation, humanitarian work visa, or of some other nature, they resort to these centers ”, he added.

In Armendáriz’s opinion, “it is very important that they exist, that they are in operation so that they can be in conditions to guarantee safety or life, but also for the administrative procedures that are required.

It is urgent that they exist,” he said.

Waiting for adjustments

The ombudsman said that they are waiting for the necessary adjustments to be made to guarantee integrity.

If not, he pointed out, there will be a bottleneck. People have false expectations with title 42, they think that they will be able to cross into the United States faster, but it will not be like that. They will be checked and if they try again they may even go to jail.
