Bremen
Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte defends his office. According to the forecast, right-wing populist citizens in anger reach over 10 percent.

According to forecasts, the SPD has become the strongest force in the elections in the state of Bremen. According to the numbers from ARD and ZDF on Sunday (6 p.m.), the Social Democrats, who have been in power for almost 80 years, have been in power Andreas Bovenschulte with 29.5 to 30 percent ahead of the previously oppositional CDU with 24.5 to 25.5 percent with challenger Frank Imhoff.

The Greens, governing with the SPD, are therefore in the two-city country Bremen and Bremerhaven to 12 to 12.5 percent. The left, as the third coalition partner, achieved 10.5 to 11 percent in the state parliament, which is called the citizenship there.

The citizens in anger (BiW) are growing beyond Bremerhaven

According to the forecasts, the FDP is between 5 and 5.5 percent. The local right-wing populist movement Citizens in Anger (BIW) improves very sharply to 10.5 percent. The party benefits from the fact that the AfD, which is deeply divided in Bremen, was not allowed to vote because two competing nominations had been submitted from its ranks.

The BiW have been a fixture in the right-wing spectrum in the state of Bremen for years. The voters’ association, founded in 2004, places itself between the CDU and AfD. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, she represents right-wing populist and economically liberal positions.

The two-city state with Bremen and Bremerhaven has so far been led by a coalition of SPD, Greens and Left.

Due to the complicated Bremen electoral system, the provisional official final result is not expected until Wednesday. Bremen and Bremerhaven are considered separate elective areas, each with its own five percent hurdle. A party that jumps the hurdle in an electoral area is represented in the citizenship. (lah/dpa)
