The German discounter Lidl has won a legal battle over its logo against its competitor Tesco in Great Britain. Lidl had sued Tesco for using its logo illegally – a court upheld the lawsuit, Britain’s PA news agency reported today. The hearing took place in February. Tesco announced an appeal.
The Lidl name appears in the logo on a yellow circle with a narrow red border on a blue background. Tesco designed its loyalty card, the Clubcard, very similarly – advertising discounted products appears in a yellow circle on a blue background, but the blue is slightly different.
A Lidl spokesman expressed his satisfaction with the decision on Wednesday. The Tesco spokeswoman said her company was “surprised and disappointed”.
