The LKA Lower Saxony speaks again a warning or an important note: Currently, many users are receiving fake domain invoices from DDN Hosting by email. The claim in the fake news: Supposedly you have to pay open costs for a domain registration for 2023 / 2024.

Actually, it should quickly be noticed that this is a fake. The e-mails in question do not use a personal salutation and also contain grammatical errors. Attachments to the emails are PDF files that allegedly contain invoices. Here you should refrain from opening directly, because opening attachments from unknown senders is rarely a good idea.

In this case, the perpetrators are actually not trying to smuggle in malware via the attachment or to guide you to dubious websites, but rather to urge you to make a transfer. The recipient’s bank account is in Estonia and details of the supposed domain you are supposed to have registered are also missing.

These emails have been circulating in slightly modified versions for a few days. Only the invoice number and the date seem to differ. Ultimately, you can safely delete these messages and of course you should not transfer any money. The LKA Lower Saxony also recommends reporting to the local police station.
