O Prime Video receives this week a new option for thriller fans. locked premieres on the platform on May 10 as one of the main bets of the service in the month, mainly because of the theme involved. Directed by DJ Caruso — who also signs I’m the number four e Paranoia — the film tells the story of a woman who has to do everything to protect her children.
In the plot, Jessica (Rainey Qualley) plays a mother of two who travels to a small town to clean and try to sell the house that her mother left her as an inheritance. Arriving at the scene, however, she is surprised by the unwanted visit of her violent ex-boyfriend, Rob (Jake Horowitz), and his partner Sammy (Vincent Gallo), a fugitive from justice.
The two are looking for money, but Rob wants something more: he wants revenge on his ex-wife. For this, he locks her in a pantry. Desperate, Jessica does everything to get out of the place and save her two children from the bandits.
What to expect from Trancada?
With a plot full of suspense, the public can expect many moments of tension and anguish. The trailer itself already delivers that the work has chances to please fans of the genre. In addition, the film makes the story more humanized by showing Jessica not only trying to save her children, but also struggling to stay away from drugs.
With a script written by Melanie Toast, locked was theatrically released in February 2022 and became a box office hit in the United States and Mexico. Originally called Shut Inhe won 60% positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, against 94% approval from the general public.
It is worth mentioning that, in 2019, the film’s script was featured in the 15th edition of The Blacklist awards, an event that elects the best scripts not yet produced.
In an interview to the press, director DJ Caruso said he was excited to make Trancada come out of the drawing board.
“I was excited to direct this film from the moment I read Melanie’s brilliant script in 2019. I was given creative freedom to guide this story that features a character who struggles through dire circumstances to find a new life”
Who is in the cast of Trancada?
In addition to the three main characters, the thriller features Luciana VanDette, Penelope Martone, Mahboud Hosseinzadeh, among others.
It is worth remembering that Rainey, who plays the protagonist, although she does not have much experience in audiovisual, brings in her curriculum some titles such as the film Ultrasound and the series Love in the Time of Corona.

Sadly for Netflix subscribers, locked it’s only available on Google Play, Apple TV — plus, of course, Prime Video starting May 10th.
