Excellent processing meets low latency and (depending on the setting) long runtime, but it is quite large and not cheap.

Logitech seems to be becoming one of my favorite mouse vendors right now. I am quite impressed by the G705 from the Aurora Collection, I use the Pro X Superlight on the laptop and for this test I also regularly used the G502 X Plus. Which basically represents something like the alternative to the cute G705: the good piece is bigger and more angular. And at 169 euros, almost 70 euros more expensive than the G705. Right?

Box & Accessories: There is a lot more hidden in the packaging of the G502 X Plus apart from the mouse. On the one hand you get a USB-C charging cable, a USB extension adapter, the Lightspeed wireless receiver (USB-A), a cover for the DPI change button, the obligatory operating instructions and a sticker. Hooray. Who is actually happy about such stickers? I don’t know anyone who sticks it somewhere. All this is in a stable cardboard box, in which the mouse and its accessories are safely housed without any plastic elements.

Processing: The design of the G502 X Plus is similar to previous models of the G502, albeit with more curves than before. The surface is matte – black or white depending on the model – and there are textured handles on the sides. The front left, center and side buttons have a glossy finish. Logitech has opted for an asymmetrical design, so the G502 X Plus falls flat for left-handers.

The good piece is 130 x 78 x 41 mm in size, weighs around 105 grams and the workmanship is first class. In itself, the plastic material is quite thin, but feels very high quality and stable. The G502 X Plus is pleasant to use, your hand still rests well and comfortably on it even after hours of use. At the same time, the mouse has well-designed PTFE glides that get along well with different surfaces (table, mouse pad). On the underside you will find a small chamber including a lid, in which you can safely stow the USB dongle.

Keys and typing feel: The G502 X Plus has a total of twelve buttons, three of which are side buttons. Except for the button directly behind the mouse wheel, you can also assign all the buttons of the mouse differently. Said button behind the mouse wheel lets you adjust its mode. This gives you either the familiar tactile feedback when scrolling, but you can also activate completely free scrolling without this feedback between individual steps.

As far as the buttons are concerned, Logitech uses optical-mechanical hybrid switches. For this one promises a higher speed and greater reliability, at the same time the clicking is retained, which is comparatively loud with the G502 X Plus. Click latency is very low (2.7 ms wireless, 2.2 ms wired) and all inputs are transmitted quickly and reliably.

The DPI toggle button cover mentioned earlier is for the front-most button on the left side of the mouse. Here you can decide for yourself whether you want to have another button at the front that you can trigger with your thumb or not.

In summary, the G502 X Plus still feels good after hours of use and pressing the two primary buttons leaves a satisfying clicking noise for those who like it.

Features & special functions: The G502 X Plus uses the Hero 25K sensor with a resolution of 100 to 25,600 DPI and has a maximum polling rate of 1,000 Hz. Apart from that, there are 125 Hz, 250 Hz and 500 Hz as gradations.

The battery life depends largely on whether you use the RGB lighting, which uses eight LEDs, or not. If you switch off the lighting, up to 130 hours are possible according to Logitech. The runtime shrinks significantly to around 37 hours when the RGB lighting is constantly activated. A feature called “active gamer recognition” is supposed to get more out of the G502 X Plus if you want to use the lighting. In this case, the mouse recognizes when your hand is on it and switches off the lighting. If you remove your hand, it will be activated again.

You can decide whether you would like to have a button for your thumb on the front or not.

You don’t have to worry about that at all when using the G502 X Plus in combination with Logitech’s Powerplay mouse pad with integrated wireless charging system. The mouse is Powerplay compatible and is constantly charged wirelessly when used with the mouse pad.

Software: Settings and programming are made using the Logitech G Hub software. You can also use it to create different profiles and save up to five on the onboard memory of the G502 X Plus. The software is reasonably usable and lets you make the various settings easily.

Logitech G502 X Plus – Conclusion

With so many mice on the market, how are you supposed to choose just one? Of course, this applies to pretty much every product category. So maybe make your decision dependent on the manufacturer. Logitech recently convinced me with its mice and this trend continues with the G502 X Plus. It is excellently installed and delivers great performance in terms of latency and sensor. Feels good, it is comfortable to use and slides well over different surfaces. The only weak point compared to some other mice in the competitive sector could be the weight. There are easier options out there.

And then of course there was the price. Around 170 euros is not little money, but the G502 X Plus also offers a lot and above all quality as well as a long service life, especially since it is even more designed for durability with its switches. An investment that could pay off in the long run. Whether it’s worth it to you, well, that decision is ultimately yours, as always. In terms of quality, there is little to be said against it.
