An urban rodeo took place on Friday afternoon in a shopping center in Orvault, near Nantes. An investigation has been opened.

“I couldn’t help but jump.” Friday, at the end of the afternoon, three two-wheeler pilots burst into the gallery of the Orvault Grand Val shopping center, north of Nantes.

“The three motorized machines appeared in the shopping mall and passed level with my shop. (…) The client I was looking after literally started shaking,” said a tradeswoman from the gallery to West France.

A “fast” urban rodeo, according to another witness, questioned by the daily: “They took a turn and spun without asking for their rest. Certainly, the guy who was driving while filming his friends has already posted the images of this silly challenge.”

This recently happened near Grenoble in a shopping center, he recalls, in Villefontaine. The two young men who were behind it were sentenced to 18 months in prison, 9 of which were suspended, and 12 months in prison, 6 of which were suspended.

An open investigation

A police source tells West France that an investigation has been opened and CCTV footage has been seized to identify suspects.

In addition, the managers of the shopping center, owned by the Leclerc group, also sent an email to the merchants to announce that a complaint was going to be filed. They explain in this letter that “by the time the security guard of the gallery intervenes, the two-wheelers have spun by the emergency exits on the Grand Val pharmacy side”.

“No matter the size of the shopping center or the security company employed, these are challenges launched on social networks which last only a few seconds and it is particularly difficult to apprehend the perpetrators”, they believe in this text. Taking into account “the psychological impact that this type of incident can have” on customers and employees, they have reinforced security within the site.
