According to British intelligence services, Russia is deliberately trying to give the impression that the situation in the annexed areas of Ukraine has returned to normal.
At a recent meeting of Russia’s Security Council, Home Secretary Vladimir Kolokoltsev was chosen to speak on reconstruction, law enforcement and public order in the annexed territories, the UK Defense Ministry’s briefing said today.
The fact that he was chosen as spokesman is presumably a sign that the situation in the provinces should appear as normal and everyday as possible. In fact, however, the areas are still actively contested and many residents do not have access to the most basic services.
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense has published daily updates on the progress of the war. Citing intelligence information, the British government wants to both counter the Russian account and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a disinformation campaign.
