At 10 p.m. the band Lord of the Lost entered the stage for Germany. The appearance of the five men at the ESC is described online as “unexpected” and “brave”.
ESC viewers had to wait almost two hours before Germany’s appearance flickered across the screens. Shortly before the performance, two favorites were on stage – and they didn’t make it any easier for Lord of the Lost.
Shortly before Germany, Ukraine performed with the music duo Tvorchi and Norway with singer Alessandra. Lord of the Lost then entered the stage as the 21st show act. The musicians from Hamburg performed their song “Blood & Glitter”. The men put on their show in unusual latex looks.
“Germany, are you okay?”
One liked it, the other didn’t. The first critical comments quickly piled up on Twitter. “Germany is a mixture of many horrible things!”, For example, a user commented on the appearance. “What the hell is that?” asked another. “Germany, are you okay?” Someone wanted to know. Others quipped about the band’s latex outfits: “Is that Britney’s ‘Oops, I did it again’ suit, but without a leg?”
But some were also enthusiastic. “Sounds like something I would have on my playlist,” said one viewer. “I would say it’s a brave participation from Germany,” said another user. Also read: “I didn’t expect that” and “Germany must win”. There was also praise from home, albeit rather cautiously: “That’s not the worst thing we’ve sent there lately.”
8th place for Germany?
Lord of the Lost actually had good odds calculated in advance. ESC legend Peter Urban, for example, even sees Germany in the top 10 with the Hamburg band’s performance. The commentator believes that Lord of the Lost will make it to eighth place.
Germany’s starting position also speaks for a good placement. Because it is often the later performances that are better remembered, which also has an effect on the audience’s award of points. Lena Meyer-Landrut started 22nd in 2010 and won, while Malik Harris was the 13th show act and ultimately took last place.
