On BFM Business, the managing director of Renault qualifies the analyzes which qualify the rebalancing of the new Alliance with Nissan as a failure. For Luca de Meo, the situation above all opens up new opportunities.

“The marriage was long. We were together for 24 years with ups and downs”, This is how Luca de Meo, general manager of Renault, summed up Renault’s “divorce” with Nissan and Mitsubishi. But with the new agreement sealed with its Japanese partner, the diamond group has “bought strategic freedom”, according to its managing director.

“I have not experienced the difficulties of the Alliance, I am emotionless about the story”, declared Luca de Meo, specifying that he “is not naive, there have been tensions”.

By lowering its stake in the alliance from 43% to 15%, the managing director of Renault even believes that this small share “brings a lot more” to his group.

“This new contract will allow us to produce Nissans and Mitsubishis in France. That’s concrete!” Luca de Meo replies to those who see the future darken for Renault.

Expand Ampere

From now on, the future rests on the all-electric and on a technological shift with at the center Ampere, the future electrical division of Renault which attracts the major tech groups including Qualcomm and Google.

“I’m glad Qualcomm has decided to invest [dans ce projet]. Renault is a technology box, not an assembler. The Mégane’s navigation system is one of the best. We did it with Google”, recalls the manager.
