Lucio Dupuy, 5 years old, was abused and tortured until his death in La Pampa

Lucio Dupuy, a little boy who lost his life at the hands of his mother and her girlfriend. That he was sexually abused and tortured by both. It disturbs me to see a large part of society anesthetized by such a tremendous event. It shocks me so much that maybe that’s why I try to put my feelings into words. I wonder, I ask you: What future does a society have that is indifferent to the pain of an event as atrocious as this?

Lucio’s case was publicly disclosed but there are many other Lucios, and we do nothing, or almost nothing. We live in a society that closes in on itself, and does not allow us to get involved.

It seems that we are oblivious to the pain, to the suffering of the other. I have the conviction that we are a society that encourages failure, and that failure is indifference and lack of empathy. How can it be that a society that has historically taken to the streets to demand justice for so many issues, does not react to this case? as if here nothing would have happened?

I try to find the reasons just to understand. To stop my head and not go crazy. Probably because it is a case that took place in the province of La Pampa, the distance from the City of Buenos Aires, makes it have little coverage; but I still don’t understand why people don’t cry out for justice.

Undoubtedly, the fact that two women were the perpetrators of the murder will have something to do with it. It seems that to demonstrate against the mother and her partner is to be against the so-called gender ideology. But here we are before a crime, and a series of perversions that are part of the fact that is being judged. There is a fear that they will brand you as violent, as contrary to women’s rights. It’s crazy, but there’s something to this.

How long are we going to tolerate “judicial error”? How long are we going to cover up a group of judges who don’t listen, who don’t give credence to parents’ complaints? Undoubtedly these officials are a minority. But the damage they cause is so great, the consequences of their bad mistakes are so serious, that we can no longer tolerate it. Those who have to judge the judges keep a deafening silence. Or worse, they cover up.

We have so many international treaties that “guarantee the rights of children”, but they are trampled on. They have become, once again, a dead letter. Without a doubt we are a loneliness bogged down in failure.
