Allison Williams (34) played the supporting role in the surprise Oscar hit “Get Out”. In this creepy fun, the daughter of prominent US news anchor Brian Williams (63) gives a modern Dr. Frankenstein with modern – and murderous – problems.

Story: When little Cady (Violet McGraw, 11) loses both her parents in a car accident, she takes care of her Aunt Gemma (Allison Williams). Gemma is a robotics engineer at a toy company and is on the verge of the industry revolution: her robot M3gan (Amie Donald, 12) is more lifelike than any artificial creature before her. Gemma doesn’t mind Cady befriending her creation. Until a few fuses blow on M3gan…

The cult hit “Chucky” is bloodier. The thriller “Ex Machina” deals with the topic of dangers of artificial intelligence a hundred times more intelligently. But M3gan is fun!

Horror filmmaker James Wan (45, “Saw”, “Fast & Furious 7”) came up with the story. But he left the direction and screenplay to others. Maybe it’s because the film manages to do without disgust and with little gore. Its tension is more reminiscent of horror classics like “The Omen”.

With “M3gan” humor is not neglected. But he never gets the upper hand. “M3gan” remains a horror film.

Conclusion: The slim 102 minutes fly by. Without the horror having to be stretched out with buckets of fake blood or scenes of disgust. “M3gan” entertains with real horror – and a pinch of humor.
