The security institution Guardia Nacional in Mexico got a surprise when they were about to open what they thought was just an ordinary Christmas package.

The package was supposed to be sent to the United States, but several security officers were quickly called to a local airport in Queretaro after an unusual discovery.

Skulls

National Guard reports on Twitter that they found four items wrapped in plastic and aluminum foil in the package.

More X-rays eventually revealed that the package contained four skulls.

According to the Guardia Nacional, the four skulls are apparently of human origin.

Offense

NBC writes that the package was sent from the Mexican city of Apatzingán, and was going to South Carolina in the USA.

The Guardia Nacional has not said anything about who the skulls belong to, or what they were to be used for.

According to NBC, one of the security officers at the airport in Mexico says that the skull discovery violates Mexican laws on the handling of corpses.

This applies regardless of how the sender obtained the skulls, or whether they are to be used for a medical study.
