  • Still stratospheric figures for Avatar 2

Tirailleurs, the next great French success?

For some time now, we have only heard about Avatar 2… Sometimes with good reason, since James Cameron’s film explodes all records, but often wrongly, which overshadows the latest cinematic releases. However, today, the film which took 13 years to come out has just found a major competitor: Tirailleurs.

The French film by Mathieu Vadepied tells the story of Bakary Diallo, here played by Omar Sy (Intouchables), who enlists in the French army to join his son Thierno who has just turned 17. Everything takes place during the First World War, more precisely during the year 1917, and takes the opportunity to highlight the 200,000 African skirmishers who fought for France.

If the feature film of Vadepied does not have the same flight as Avatar: The Way of the Water, it still achieves for its first week of operation a magnificent start. We are talking here about a total of 387,000 entries distributed in 554 cinemas. With this fine score, the title climbed to second place on the podium for the best entries of the week; it therefore closely follows Avatar 2. Located on the first step of the ranking, James Cameron’s blockbuster recorded this week a total of 1.4 million admissions in French cinemas.

Still stratospheric figures for Avatar 2

Thanks to these new data, Avatar: The Way of the Water has obviously just achieved a new feat. The film, which has just surpassed 1.7 billion receipts worldwide to become the 7th highest grossing of all time, has also just crossed the 10 million admissions mark in France, a feat that has not been seen since the “live-action” remake of The Lion King.

Despite the pandemic which has weakened the success of dark rooms, Avatar 2 is ahead of the path traveled by the first film in the saga which, as we recall, was released in 2009. We therefore imagine that it could easily reach the 15 million entries of Avatar first of the name before the end of its broadcast on the big screen.
