The 110 center and the police reported a major water main break in Kolstien on Landås in Bergen on Sunday morning.
The leak has occurred at height, and a number of homes further down the street were in danger of taking in water, duty commander Helge Lund told TV 2 at 11.40am.
Bergens Tidende have spoken to residents who should have received water in their homes.
At 12.41 the fire service has finished on the scene and reports “minimal damage”.
Smooth: – Steer away
According to TV 2’s reporter on the spot, the water has frozen to ice, and it is mirror-bright on the spot. Several people fell and hit the slippery surface.
It was impossible for normal cars to get down the hill on their own. At one point, a litter van drove at the front of a column with eight passenger cars behind it.
An elderly woman could not get up the hill on foot, and had to take a long detour to her house.
– At the top, the water freezes in places. Strollers are requisitioned. In short; steer clear of this area until further notice, whether you are on foot or on wheels, the police write on Twitter.
Closed
– We received a message at 11 o’clock. It is flowing down Kolstien and Landåslien, down Nattlandsveien, and also towards Erleveien, which is the side road to Nattlandsveien, Lund told TV 2.
The fire service was on the scene with considerable resources to prevent water from flowing into buildings.
At 11.43 Lund told TV 2 that they had just had the water shut off.
Parts of Nattlandsveien are closed, as well as Landåslien and several side roads, the police report.
More will be without water, writes B.A. A boil warning will be sent out, the newspaper writes.
