Man extradited from Puerto Rico in connection to Waterbury murder

Police arrested a second man suspected of the murder of a 37-year-old man at an apartment building in Waterbury, Connecticut in March.

Officers were called to a multi-family apartment building on Hill Street around 8:45 p.m. on March 21 after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.

When police arrived they found John Rosario, 37, of Waterbury, with a gunshot wound. He died shortly after. According to investigators, the incident occurred inside a vacant apartment in the building.

On Friday, detectives extradited Juan Carlos López-Fontanez, 37, of Waterbury, from Puerto Rico to Connecticut. Police suspect he was involved in the deadly shooting in March.

The police department said Lopez-Fontanez received an arrest warrant charging him with murder, conspiracy to murder, reckless endangerment, weapons in a motor vehicle and more. He is being held on $3 million bail and appeared in court on Friday.

On April 21, police arrested José Cintrón, 38, of Waterbury. He has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, weapons in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a high capacity magazine, reckless endangerment and more. He was being held on $2 million bail.
