A person was shot with a rifle Thursday while pumping gas in Greenbelt, Maryland, and the suspects fled, police said.
The preliminary report revealed that officers responded to an attempted carjacking around 3:35 am at an Exxon gas station on Greenbelt Road near Hanover Parkway.
A witness saw two men approach the victim to pour gas while a third remained in a car and a struggle eventually broke out, according to police.
“He initially complied with her request. At some point, he ended up suffering a gunshot wound,” said Police Chief Richard Bowers.
The victim received a rifle shot to the head and neck, according to authorities. Only one man was identified.
The man, whose age was not released, was rushed to a hospital.
Authorities are still looking for the possible carjackers who got away in a black sedan.
Greenbelt Police and Prince George’s County Police are investigating whether the same group of people committed a second crime early Thursday.
