Mar del Plata closed the first full weekend of the year with a strong presence of visitors and an ideal climate to take advantage of the beach, the walks and the large number of proposals that the city offers this summer.
Despite a lukewarm start to the season, the sudden arrival of a greater number of vacationers has generated great expectations at the Mar del Plata Secretary of Tourism, where yesterday they spoke of a “very positive” balance and “an important level of consumption ‘
Throughout the last few days, the tourist movement towards the Mar del Plata coast experienced a clear rebound, reaching an occupancy rate of more than 80%. And one of the keys to this rebound could have been the good weather recorded over the last week which, with clear skies and maximum temperatures close to 28 degrees, produced a strong influx of visitors to the beaches as well as a good movement in gastronomic activity
The arrival of tourists that has accelerated in recent days opens up good expectations for the coming week. Although the Municipal Tourism Entity acknowledges that they still do not have specific data on arrivals, they assure that the balance is “very positive” and they highlight an important level of consumption.
“There are a lot of people. The operators tell us that it is very good and that this weekend they were at their best,” said the president of the Entity, Bernardo Martín, who added that the city’s gastronomic sector “is working very hard, which indicates that there is significant consumption ”.
In this regard, a considerable increase in demand for premium restaurants stands out, where reservations -according to the sector’s assurances- would be complete for the remainder of the month.
With regard to the spas, the weather was an ally for the spas throughout the week and high occupancy levels were recorded, which in some cases reached 100%. After the rain on January 1, there were days with clear skies and high temperatures, which boosted the daily rental of tents and umbrellas. This, added to the 75% occupancy on average for the month of January, as confirmed by the Chamber of Spas, led to the completion of the occupation in many sectors.
From the Mar del Plata Hotel Association, Eduardo Palena said that “the first days of the year were very good with a large number of visitors.”
The occupation during the first weekend of the year “reached 80% and the tourist movement is seen in the streets of the city” added Palena.

Mar del Plata currently has about 50,000 hotel beds along its 45 kilometers of beach. And those who decide to visit it this summer will be able to enjoy a variety of theatrical, sports, recreational, and cultural proposals and the traditional coastal walks.
This season, Mar del Plata’s gastronomy, a city classic, seems to suit all budgets. GOOD PROGNOSIS
After a first week of the year with good weather, this second week is shaping up to be an encouraging forecast; so those visitors who opted for Mar del Plata during the first half of January cannot complain.
According to the forecast of the National Meteorological Service, a sunny day with intense winds from the north to the northeast sector and a maximum of 27 degrees is expected for today. And the same conditions would be repeated tomorrow in La Feliz, although with an increase in cloudiness.
The possibilities of enjoying the beach would not, however, be the best for next Wednesday, when the forecast calls for unstable weather and the possibility of rain, although not a marked drop in temperature, the maximum of which would remain at around 27 degrees. .
All in all, the bad forecast is limited to Wednesday. As of Thursday and until Sunday, a window of good weather is expected, with clear skies, maximum temperatures of around 28 degrees and winds from the southern sector that would rotate to the northwest as the days went by.
