Behind this change is an “extra” secret!
After 14 years, TV presenter Mareile Höppner (45) left the ARD tabloid magazine “Brisant” and went to RTL (BILD reported).
On Tuesday (January 10th) Höppner celebrates its premiere as the new moderator of the program “EXTRA – das RTL-Magazin” (now every Tuesday, 10.35 p.m., RTL)!

On Tuesday (January 10) presenter Mareile Höppner celebrates her premiere on the RTL magazine “Extra”. Her promise: “The first show will be something special and also very personal”
… the change to their dream jobs: “There have been talks with RTL for a long time and the idea to change. I’ve always said: If it’s the right constellation, then I’m in! I dream of two formats – they are ‘Extra’ and ‘stern TV’… Then RTL suddenly called and said: Well, now ‘Extra’ is free to represent ‘stern TV am Sonntag’! Then I just couldn’t say no anymore. Incidentally, in March I will be moderating ‘stern TV am Sonntag’ for the first time.”
… the return to her professional roots: “As if no time had passed! (laughs) I’m currently meeting a lot of colleagues who were already at RTL when I started there as a trainee over 20 years ago. We haven’t gotten older. So I think… (laughs)“
… her “Extra” predecessor Nazan Eckes: “What’s also special is that Nazan Eckes and I started together at RTL back then. We met in our early 20s on RTL Nord in Hamburg. I was still studying there and Nazan and I were the weather presenters on RTL. We can still pass on dangerous half-knowledge from this time, such as: What actually is a cumulus cloud? Yes, with us you can shine in every quiz.”
Her beginnings as a presenter: In 2001, Mareile Höppner supported the weather presenter Christian Häckl as an assistant on “RTL aktuell”
… the big footsteps of Birgit Schrowange (64, moderated “Extra” for 25 years): “I’ve known Birgit since I was a trainee, when she moderated ‘Extra’. She is an institution and a great moderator! But I wouldn’t say that I’m following in her footsteps, rather her shoes are left standing on the shelf and will always be honored. I think you can reinvent a show like Extra and leave your own footprint.”
… about her successor to Nazan Eckes on “Extra”: “She said: The job stays in the family for a bit! At least that’s how Nazan put it when she handed it over to me. That’s how we both see and feel it. We women feel no competition with each other. But on the contrary! We’d rather say: Thank God there are a few women in the very male-dominated world of television who have lasted so long. And these women show solidarity and are a broad shoulder. That’s why it’s so good that Birgit’s shoes are in the closet and Nazan’s are now next to them. I just put my little new shoes next to it now. They can grow there.”
… her ritual before a live broadcast: “No matter how stressful it was beforehand, or if I’m nervous because I didn’t feel that way that day, the last thing I say to myself is, ‘Now let’s have fun!’ Because Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt once said something clever to me: ‘What we do is all lifetime! And if we spend 10 hours in the editorial office, then this time should be fun’.”
In 2017, the couple separated after 17 years of love: Mareile Höppner and Arne Schönfeld
Her patchwork family life with ex Arne Schönfeld (46) and new partner Florian (43, director): “We have a classic week change model. So we both have equal amount of time with our son (Editor’s note Jakob, 12) “And further: “I’m very happy, I have a really great man by my side. We live together with three children in Patchwork. But it doesn’t really want to take place in public.”
About Divorce: “We’re not divorced yet. A divorce does not play a role in our current life either. And if that should happen, no one will notice.”
