A gunman aimed indiscriminately at passers-by in a mall near Dallas. Children as young as five are among the victims.
The year is just 125 days old when America already has almost 200 gun tragedies, each with more than four dead or seriously injured. The most recent “mass shooting” occurred on Saturday afternoon during prime shopping time at a shopping mall in Allen, a suburb of the Texan metropolis Dallas.

Eight people between the ages of five and 61 died before a police officer who happened to be on site because of other investigations put the shooter out of action. According to the fire department, nine visitors to the shopping center, which has 120 shops, were taken to hospitals. Three of them floated in late Saturday night, according to Sheriff Brian Harvey risk of death.
About the identity of mass murderer and the chief police officer said nothing about his motive at first. The state’s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, spoke of an “unspeakable tragedy” and asked for prayers to be given to the victims and their families. Democratic lawmakers reacted with outrage. “Prayer doesn’t bring the dead back. Stricter gun laws are needed to reduce the risk of further disasters. As a first step, assault rifles must finally be banned.”
Horrific ones circulated on social media in the evening video sequences of several corpses lying on top of each other, including children and adolescents. Steven Spainhouer, father of a young man who works at the mall, told CBS that a girl was shot in the face. A boy only survived because his mother put a protective shield over him. Eyewitnesses reported that the shooter randomly aimed at people on the sidewalk in front of the shopping mall. Because the police initially assumed a second shooter, the area was searched. Hundreds of people left the shops with their arms raised. Then all clear: There was only one shooter.
The crime in Allen happened just days after the drama that happened in nearby Houston five people were killed. A 38-year-old man had been loitering on his private property. When neighbors asked him to stop out of respect for a sleeping baby, the drunk Mexican man committed a bloodbath with a gun. A child also died.
