In Mayotte, while the operation to expel immigrants has started with checks, tensions are rising. In the largest slum on the island located in the district of Mamoudzou (Mayotte)a large number of police and gendarmes surprised the population this Sunday morning. A population that took fright because it thought that its homes were going to be destroyed that day.
1,800 law enforcement officers as reinforcements
Many residents fled. The police were there to supervise a demonstration which was to be launched, but which ultimately did not take place. For this operation, 1,800 law enforcement officers were mobilized as reinforcements on the island. Two days ago, they began to push the delinquents to another locality in the district of Mamoudzou. On Monday, the operation will ramp up with a massive identity check throughout the territory of Mayotte. The first slum demolitions are expected to begin Tuesday morning.
