Both are from Texas, the age difference is eight years: US actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson could actually be related. At least that’s what McConaughey said in the podcast hosted by Kelly Ripa.
In it, the 53-year-old revealed that he and his True Detective colleague and close friend Harrelson may be half-brothers after McConaughey’s mother revealed she once knew Harrelson’s father.
A few years ago they were in Greece together and talked about families. There McConaughey’s mother said: “Woody, I knew your father.” Apparently nobody dared to ask what she meant by “know”. Because Harrelson had a difficult childhood because of his father. This was a contract killer, he died in prison in 2007. Harrelson’s father was on leave when McConaughey’s mother divorced her. So they “recalculated a bit,” says McConaughey.
You have a lot in common, the childhood photos would be the same. The children of the two actors would also call the other “uncle”. “Where I start and where he ends, where he begins and I end, it’s always been a blurred line,” McConaughey said. The two actors are now considering doing a DNA test. But he still shys away from it, McConaughey said. He didn’t want to hurt the man who assumed his father for 53 years.
McConaughey and Harrelson have appeared in front of the camera together several times, including in “True Detective,” which will soon be rebooted – albeit without the two actors. A comedy series called Brother From Another Mother is about to launch on Apple TV+.
