Attacks on the homes of some authorities continue. This time, the house of the governor of Huancavelica, Leoncio Huayllani, was attacked last Wednesday. While, her brother’s was burned by a mob. These protesters call for the resignation of the president Dina Boluarte and closure of Congress of the republic.
Upon reaching the facilities, they threw stones and other items, so the official’s windows ended up broken. However, this was not all, this group of vandals also burned the first floor of his brother’s house, which was located next door.
This would have happened after the request of this group in which Governor Huayllani pronounced himself in favor of the protests. The official would meet in the coming days with the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola.
During the night, representatives of the National Prosecutor’s Office and the Peruvian National Police arrived at the place to collect and carry out the corresponding procedures. Also, corroborate what the damages have been.
According to the testimonies of the neighbors, some people were in the house during the attack. During these demonstrations it was also known that around eight policemen were injured.
This attack took place, despite the fact that through a statement, the governor supported the protesters and called for an end to the use of weapons. He also called on the president Dina Boluarte for an emergency meeting to be called in the Assembly
“Current problems will not be resolved through repression, declarations of states of emergency, militarization of towns or any violent action that has led to more than 40 murders so far; these have to be resolved with immediate measures and decisions, addressing the claims of the peoples in a sincere space for direct dialogue and without disguised speeches,” the letter reads.
According to information from the Zacarías Correa Regional Hospital, an injured protester is reported. The clashes between the National Police and protesters have been taking place since yesterday, January 17, after the call for a 48-hour national strike.
