Mexico asks for $7,500 to repatriate the body of a murdered Cuban migrant

MEXICO CITY.– The body of the Cuban migrant Yarlenis Ortiz González, murdered by her ex-partner in Tapachula, Mexico, is awaiting repatriation to Cuba because the immigration authorities of the Aztec country are asking for $7,500 from relatives to carry out the transfer.

Because Ortiz González was the victim of femicide, her body cannot be cremated. Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased, Iralda González, asked through her social networks for support to raise the amount of the transfer and “to be able to give her a dignified burial in the warmth of her land and her most loved ones,” details the CubaNet web portal.

“I am the mother of Yarlenis Ortiz González, a 37-year-old Cuban citizen, mother of two teenagers ages 15 and 17 who was brutally murdered in Tapachula, Mexico on November 30, unfortunately we do not have enough resources to return her body with the family that we are going through so much pain,” wrote Yarlenis’ mother.

Yarlenis Ortiz González was 37 years old and left Cuba leaving two teenage children. At the time of his death, he worked at the Las Caguameras bar, located in the Las Hortencias neighborhood, he details. CubaNet.

Days after breaking off her love relationship with the Cuban Iván Cabrera Martínez, the man arrived at her workplace with a knife and lethally attacked the woman, without medical help being able to help the wound.

The Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office informed 14ymedio that the process against Cabrera Martínez is still open and he has one month for his defense to present evidence in his favor.
