Miami-Dade authorities have arrested a woman they accuse of murdering her husband four years ago in the home they shared.
The crime took place in the presence of the murderer’s son, who was two years old at the time.
Aimeé Martínez, 35, was charged and taken to prison this Thursday, after the police confirmed that she killed her husband with a firearm that she had hidden inside a folded pillow.
The incident occurred on the morning of March 10, 2019, near Southwest 47th Street and Southwest 67th Avenue, in Kendal.
According to the arrest warrant, Martinez herself called 911 and said that she had shot her partner in self-defense because he had attacked her.
The victim, identified as 34-year-old Osmanny Montano, was found by officers lying in the stairwell, with gunshot wounds to the chest and neck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the county Fire Department.
When the police arrived, the woman was outside the house with her son.
According to her testimony, Montano yelled at her, after which she went into the room and took her gun; he went in after her and they both fought over her.
According to Martinez, she shot her husband once when he was on top of her, and shot him again when he attacked her again.
But detectives later found a folded pillow with a gunshot hole in it, which contradicted their statements.
“The trajectories of the shots, the lack of soot around the bullet wounds and the location of the blood tests in relation to the impact of the projectile on the closet door,” were elements that refuted what Martínez said, the police report, consulted by Local 10 News.
In addition, the court reports add that when the police asked her if she had shot a pillow, she denied it.
Aimeé Martinez was charged with first degree murder, and was booked without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
If found guilty of murder, she could face the death penalty or life in prison.
