Miami, epicenter of commercial exchange with Peru

Publicizing the results obtained after the trade agreement signed between Peru and the United States (in force since 2009), and promoting the existing opportunities to negotiate and trade between both countries, was the central reason for the ‘Miami Investment Roadshow 2023’ event. organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ).

“We want to make known the business and investment opportunities that can be developed with Peru, and tell you that the doors are open for Hispanic and North American entrepreneurs and businessmen, from South Florida, to help us promote the best of our culture and traditions,” said Teresa Mera, vice minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism to DIARIO LAS AMERICAS.

According to the Global Business and Economy Research Center, in 2022, Peru was ranked 40th worldwide as a supplier to the United States. And last November, in the state of Florida alone, a record number of 452 Peruvian restaurants were operational. Places that not only exalt the food of the Andean country, but also offer small markets with traditional products.

“86% of the diners who go to these restaurants are not Peruvians, and that reflects the potential that Peru has as a growing economy,” said the speakers of the event who highlighted the opportunities available to those who wish to establish commercial relations between the United States and the United States. the South American country.

“We are fully aware that through gastronomy we can export our products, and Miami is an example of this,” said the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, who among the advantages of investing in Peru highlighted that: “Peru is the country number 1 with the best reputation in the region for 2022, according to REpCore Nations 2023. In addition, it is the fourth destination for foreign direct investment in South America, according to data from FDI Markets. It had 5% inflation for September 2023, one of the lowest in South America. And it stands out for having more than 46% growth in foreign direct investment, according to the National Bank of Peru.”

But what does Peru export to our table?

Thanks to its variety of microclimates, the Andean country sows and harvests throughout the year. Reason why it offers a fresh offering that highlights its grains that are recognized worldwide as super foods. In addition, Peru is the leading producer of blueberries and quinoa in the world, and the second global producer of Amazon nuts.

“Peruvian exports to the United States broke a record by adding 8,602 million dollars in 2022, representing an increase of 21% compared to 2021. This shows that the United States is the first destination for our non-traditional products, from the agribusiness. ”said Teresa Mera.

“We provide macroeconomic stability and we have no major financial shocks. To give you an idea, in the last 20 years the dollar has not suffered a major variation, and that is essential for entrepreneurs. On the other hand, we are investing in port infrastructure, logistics services, tourism projects, expanding our agricultural frontier, providing high technology, and promoting the manufacturing industry and the textile sector,” he concluded.
