Michael Douglas visits Israel on solidarity trip

JERUSALEM.- The actor Michael Douglas visited yesterday -June 2- a kibbutz in the south of Israel who was hit hard by the group’s attack Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Douglas met with members of Kibbutz Be’eri and visited homes destroyed in the attack. Be’eri was one of the hardest hit communities, with around 100 people killed and 30 taken hostage.

Douglas said he met with family members of the hostages and visited the site of the music festival where more than 300 people were killed.

He was also with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who gave the actor a necklace and an ornament in the shape of a yellow ribbon: symbols of solidarity with the hostages still in the hands of the Palestinian group Hamas.

“It is an extremely difficult moment. One feels the shock what this whole experience has caused,” Douglas said, expressing hope that the hostages will be freed soon.

Douglas also attacked students who have carried out pro-Palestinian protests at North American universities, saying that many of them were brainwashed.

“When you try to talk to many of them, there is no education, they have no knowledge,” he asserted.

Douglas is the latest of many American celebrities and politicians to visit southern Israel since the attacks.
