Since the early hours of yesterday, many users of Microsoft’s mail software have complained about an extreme accumulation of spam e-mails in their Outlook inbox. At the same time, the junk mail folder remained empty for those affected. The problem occurred in both the desktop and the mobile application of Outlook. However, not all accounts seemed to be affected.

After Microsoft initially did not comment, the company admitted the problem yesterday evening still on the Outlook status page: “Users may have received spam and phishing emails in their inboxes.” The cause is said to have been resolved in the meantime, even if individual members of the Microsoft support forum continue to report individual junk e-mails that were incorrectly let through. Microsoft is still silent about the technical background of the spam filter failure.
