Just before the start of this year’s season, it was reported that Skade X and their players did not reach an agreement on new contracts. This led to the entire team now being without an organization before the coming season and, according to all indications, absent from this year’s first edition of the Telialigaen. This only one season and four months after they announced the big investment.

Halvor “vENdetta” Gulestøl’s coaching future is also uncertain.

100% point capture in the league game

The venture started with a collaboration between Team Midgard, SKADE and Ulti Skins. It all started like a dance of roses, and SKADE X went undefeated through the series in the fall of 2022. Admittedly, the playoffs didn’t go as well, when the pre-favorite went on a huge tear in the semi-finals against Wizard.

Now that the team is without contracts, there are many questions to ask about it all. How can they afford to let perhaps the country’s best players go freely to competitors? Who is responsible for obtaining sponsors for the project? Perhaps most importantly, how can the players be represented by Ulti Agency when their agents are the ones who failed them?

To take the last first. All players have listed in their Twitter bio that they are represented by Ulti Agency, so this is no secret. I don’t know how I would have reacted when the same people who negotiate down your contract for an organization are at the same time representing you to get what you want. Not only that, but they have all the information they need and still lose. Ulti have in no way managed to look after their own or their players’ interests, and I fail to see how they can bring in new players with this fresh in their minds.

Without funds for full-time investment

Who is then responsible for obtaining sponsors for the organisation? A new major venture. Perhaps Norway’s best team on paper. Collaboration with Jotunheimen e-sports centre. Getting sponsors for such a team should be easy, especially if you have someone who knows how to sell the product to potential partners. “Everyone” is fighting for consumers’ time and e-sports is a new and relatively cheap way for companies to show themselves off. If there was a clear and distinct plan around this in addition to content production, where you can showcase potential sponsors, the potential would be enormous.

Precisely that probably answers the first question about how they could not afford to keep the players. If the rumors are true, and the players were offered a salary that is far below what is necessary to play full time, then it is bordering on disaster. Ulti is based in Kristiansund and doesn’t have to look further than Gurskøy and Metizport, which do their business very well. Recently they got Olympic and world champion Karsten Warholm on the team, which really shows that big names are willing to bet if you present the possible exposure for young people e-sports can offer.

SKADE X was started on 8 August, and as they themselves stated at the time.

– The aim and ambition is to show muscle in this country first, so that we can build a club. And not least working towards the business world to get partners on the field. Everyone dreams of doing this full-time, that also applies to us!

Huge potential right there

They themselves know best where they failed in their own plan, but this is not obvious to anyone who follows the scene closely. So this is my open invitation to Team Midgard, SKADE or Ulti to respond themselves if they wish.

Having said that, I really hope that the players stick together, because in my eyes they have the highest potential of all Norwegian teams. With the right means to bet and a good dose of flow, I would dare to say that the team is good enough to play in a Major in the future. But first the safe framework must be in place.

After this comment was written, the former players in Skade X have removed themselves from the old Skade X page on Gamer.no, which now goes by the name Jotunheimen. Former SKADE-X player Eskil “LaX” Bjørnsen has announced his transfer to VOID, while the future of the other four is still up in the air.
