Domo de calor. EE.UU.

Millions of people in the southwest of the country are under extreme heat warnings this Tuesday, due to a meteorological phenomenon known as a “heat dome.”

This is a phenomenon that occurs when a high pressure system “parks” over a region for up to a week, causing a sustained decrease in a mass of hot air, resulting in an increase in temperatures.

Forecasts say high temperatures could spread to northern states later this week.

Some areas could hit new records.

Higher temperatures also mean higher air conditioning costs.

A new report predicts that a sweltering summer will force Americans to pay about a third more for energy between this June and September than in 2019.

The heat is also increasing the risk of wildfires.
