Corpus Christi youth sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to distribute methamphetamine

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas.- Jacob Soliz, 23, was sentenced Wednesday, August 9, to serve 10 years in prison for possessing with intent to distribute 210 grams of methamphetamine, announced US Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Soliz pleaded guilty on April 28, the statement said.

District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos ordered that as soon as Soliz completes his prison time, he completes five years of probation. During the hearing, the court heard how the circumstances of Soliz’s arrest suggested that he was selling large quantities of methamphetamine. In passing the sentence, the court pointed out the seriousness of the offence.

On September 4, 2022, Soliz was a passenger in a vehicle traveling through Corpus Christi at 11:30 p.m. The authorities carried out a traffic control after observing that the vehicle was driving with its lights off.

Law enforcement then observed the smell of burnt marijuana and finally conducted an inspection of the vehicle. At that time, they discovered multiple bags of methamphetamine totaling 210 grams, bags of marijuana totaling approximately 150 grams, and a loaded AR-15 rifle. They also discovered approximately $2,500 in Soliz’s pocket.

At the time of his statement, Soliz admitted that the methamphetamine and the rifle belonged to him.

Soliz will remain in custody pending transfer to a US Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
