Chihuahua.- The Chihuahua Mining Cluster (CLUMIN), as well as suppliers and representatives of various mining units, regretted the approval of the initiative to reform the Mining Laws; of National Waters; of Ecological Balance and that of Environmental Protection, to toughen the obtaining of mining and water concessions.

This was voted and endorsed with 290 votes in favor by Morena, PT, PVEM and MC, 186 votes against the PRI, PAN and PRD benches, as well as one abstention.

This reform seeks to reduce the time of mining concessions from 50 to 15 years, and the endorsed reduces them to 30.

Given this, the president of CLUMIN pointed out that many of the sectors of daily life will be affected and there will be a risk of losing thousands of jobs.

“With this we will have a very strong affectation in the future because mining is in many of the sectors of daily life that would be affected, such as the hotel industry, restaurants, automotive supply, among many others,” said the owner. of said organism.

In the same sense, Méndez Alvídrez said that due to this initiative, a total of 132 thousand 679 direct and indirect jobs in the state of Chihuahua will disappear.

According to cluster data, this industry currently generates a total of 22,113 direct jobs and 110,565 indirect jobs.

In addition, at the national level, mining has employed more than 417,000 people directly and more than 2.5 million indirectly with salaries 37 percent higher than the average in the country.

It should be noted that mining currently benefits more than 312,000 people in Chihuahua and not only in the capital, but also in various communities in the mountainous area that obtain great benefits and support from mining companies.

The municipalities that depend totally or partially on this industry are: Aquiles Serdan, Batopilas, Chinipas, Cusihuiriachi, Guadalupe and Calvo, Guazapares, Wood, Ocampo and Parral.

Also on this list are: San Francisco del Oro, Santa Bárbara, Satevó, Saucillo and Uruachi.

The reform will not only harm the people who dedicate themselves to this, but also 800 students from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua who are studying Earth Sciences, specifically mining engineering and geology.
