Mexico City.- A few days after the 71st edition of the Miss Universe pageant, one of the candidates for the crown withdrew from the contest after testing positive for Covid-19.

This is Kate Alexeeva, Miss Latvia, who announced through her Instagram account that she will not be able to travel to New Orleans to participate in the pageant.

“Shortly before the New Year I was diagnosed with Covid-19 and had complications. I am still recovering. That means that unfortunately I am forced to revoke my participation in Miss Universe this year. I still do not believe that I am saying this.

“This decision is made because my health and the health of the other contestants and their families is a priority. I am very sad to admit it and still do not believe it.

“I wish you all a Happy New Year, thank you all for your support, I appreciate it immensely,” Miss Latvia wrote.

In the comment box of Kate Alexeeva’s post, the director of Miss Latvia, Inga Raduga, expressed her support for the candidate and sent a message of speedy recovery.

“Dear Kate, I wish you a speedy recovery. I know how upset you are, but that’s life. I hope you continue to shine and that everyone sees your beauty in Miss Universe 2023,” she commented.
