Matthias Mayr follows in the footsteps of Gerhard Gmeiner

Bludenz. February began with a turning point in the Bludenz mobile point. The new managing director of the municipal association for local passenger transport for the regions of Walgau, Klostertal, Großes Walsertal, Brandnertal and the Bludenz city bus, Matthias Mayr, takes up his duties. From now on he will help to shape the regional local transport in a sustainable way and thus takes over the management from Gerhard Gmeiner.

Coordination of 23 lines, more than 3 million bus kilometers driven per year and a turnover of more than 14 million euros per year – these key figures describe the order volume of the municipal association for local passenger transport in the south of Vorarlberg. From February, this will be the responsibility of Matthias Mayr. Coming from the executive branch, Mayr designed the areas of waste and environment in the office of the city of Bludenz for many years. The networking between administration and politics distinguished the new managing director in his function as head of the municipal office of the municipalities of Bürs and Satteins.

Now he is taking over the legacy from Gerhard Gmeiner, who has been in charge of the community association as it exists today for the last 13 years. In 2003, Gmeiner took over the coordination of the community association for public transport in Blumenegg and Großwalsertal. “The coordination of local passenger transport and the expansion of the overall offer is an important concern for all communities. Cooperation is required,” says Peter Neier, chairman of the Walgau municipal association, outlining the core tasks.

The tasks of the management include not only the creation of timetables and transport service contracts, but also complaint management and the operational management of Mobilpunkt Bludenz. The management is also the interface between the Vorarlberg transport association and the municipal associations. In terms of cost-effectiveness, Mayr will from now on also deal with topics such as calculated car rotations and the control of the accounts. “Particularly as the mayor of an e-5 municipality, public transport is an important concern for me.

Thank you Gerhard Gmeiner for the many years of good cooperation. I wish Matthias Mayr a good start and look forward to the implementation of exciting projects,” said Mayor Simon Tschann of Bludenz, emphasizing the importance of this mobility hub.
