Within the framework of the Scout Week 2023the walker Monserrat Ruiz Álvarez from Group 12 of the Province Yucatantook oath as president of the State Human Rights Commission (codhey), by winning public office with his project “Huertos Milenarios”.

The young woman from Umán explained that her project called “Seda Ya`ax Kaanche” whose main purpose is to create environmental awareness in the population of Umán and promote a lifestyle related to domestic agriculture and care for the environment.

“In this project, we provide courses and activities necessary to achieve a citizenship with active participation in environmental activities and recover the traditions related to the cultivation of the region,” he indicated in his message.

Among the multiple objectives, the millenary orchards project proposes a method to have a better nourished and healthy population; help reduce the environmental impact caused by the massive production of food; provide varied foods for families throughout the year; and reduce food costs.

During the ceremony held this Tuesday, Ruiz Álvarez mentioned that it also seeks to function as food support for those families with lower incomes and motivate young citizens to become self-sufficient and take care of the environment hand in hand.

“In addition, we want to rescue the culture of the traditional technique of agriculture and turn it into an area where society sees that it can handle the technique of caring for its own gardens as a hobby. We seek to make people aware of the damage that has been caused to the natural ecosystem of the region and to value the figure of the farmer and traditional agriculture, rescuing domestic agriculture”, he pointed out.

The president of the codheyMiguel Sabido Santana protested against the student of the College of Bachelors of Umán and member of the Scout Group of MexicoProvince Yucatan as Ombudsperson for a day and to whom he presented the Commission’s badge.

Sabido Santana highlighted the work carried out by the scouts by promoting care for the environment among young people, as well as the promotion and defense of human rights.

For her part, Monserrat also presented Sabido Santana with a scarf from Group 12 Pawahtún de Umán, a garment that won the national contest for its design with Mayan motifs.
