Moore Threads recently unveiled its second generation graphics card called S8based onMUSA architecture. The device is equipped with a 12nm GPUs which presents 4096 FP32 corestogether with 16GB of VRAM. The most striking feature, however, is the interface support PCI-Express 5.0still absent on the “rival” alternatives of AMD, intel And Nvidia.
The MTT S80 board has been tested by Bulls Lab, a South Korean portal known for its rather comprehensive reviews. The BullsLab team explained the card’s installation process, which has some hardware restrictions and only works with certain motherboards and monitors. It also lacks support for the latest version of the operating system and many modern games, being limited to DX9 titles and not supporting tessellation.
The MTT S80 card was compared with the GeForce GTX 1060 And GT 1030both based on the same Pascal architecturebut, despite their age, they turned out to be better options for gaming than the Chinese alternative. In almost all benchmarks, the 30W GT 1030, which features only a passive heatsink, outperforms the 250W S80. BullsLab Jay explained all the disadvantages of the architecture, such as high power consumption even in idle state, lack of compatibility with professional workloads, even though it supports NVIDIA CUDA, and the fact that it doesn’t even support AVI decoding with YouTube, despite AV1 support being advertised everywhere.
Although it does not yet have the experience of other historical realities in the sector, Moore Threads is trying to challenge these companies by proposing an interesting solution in the dedicated gaming GPU sector. The creation of the S80 represents an important step for the Chinese company, as it is its second generation of GPUs based on the MUSA architecture. However, as pointed out by BullsLab, there are still several disadvantages that prevent the graphics card from being considered an acceptable solution for gamers.
