Whether what followed has to do with the potential non-nomination or whether it was two independent circumstances remains to be seen. It is clear, however, that after the medical examination there were further negotiations that ultimately broke the transfer.

As the ‘Bild’ further reports, Isco was supposed to sign a contract until 2024. For the current rest of the season alone, he would have grossed one million euros. 1.5 million would have flowed as earnest money. In addition, an exit clause was part of the contract.

So far so good. In the final negotiations, the Isco side then demanded that the 30-year-old receive another earnest payment of 1.5 million in the summer at the change of season. Union blocked that. The ‘Bild’ itself raises the question of whether there was a misunderstanding or whether the Isco side was trying to take advantage of the time pressure of Deadline Day to talk the Berliners out of more money. Either way: Isco did not sign with Union.
