There was only a minute left for the arrival of the New Year and many began to set off firecrackers and burn their ‘dolls’. Nobody imagined that one of those pyrotechnics would unleash a hellish fire in Saint John of Lurigancho. A three-story house went up in flames and also consumed seven cars, a tree and furniture, to the point that it spread to the house next door just as members of a family were going to eat their 12 grapes and the traditional dinner.

That was one of the 114 accidents that the firefighters attended from seven in the morning on December 31 until seven at night yesterday, in Lima, Callao and spas.

The one with the highest consideration, classified as code 3, was between the Valerianas and Los Arándanos shreds, Las Flores cooperative.

“A lady was blowing up firecrackers and bombards on the track. One of them, returning from heaven, fell into the tree.”said a neighbor.

The plant, about nine meters long, caught fire and then the cars in the garage. In seconds the entire front and part of the interior was already on fire.

The owner’s son ran off with the jousting.

He and dozens of neighbors watched as the flames engulfed the entire field and spread to the side.

THEY WERE TO PROVIDE:

The Castillo family had the table ready with the grapes, champagne and dinner.

“With my two children and husband we were going to eat. The firecrackers were already bursting. Because of the noise we did not notice the fire. They knocked on the door and we could barely get our dogs out”said the owner.

They left without injuries, but the roof of several rooms, where other people who had left live, were already burned.

Some helped them pour water, but others stole their things.

“It seems that they were also burning a doll on the track”said the resident Alicia Huamán.

At dawn, the Commander of the firefighters, Mario Casaretto, specified: “It is always recommended not to buy pyrotechnics, but people look for the biggest pyrotechnic, to assemble New Year’s Eve dolls. The fire that occurred in SJL has consumed an entire property because of those dolls”.

The emergency was controlled hours later by more than 80 firefighters.

DATA:

Of the reported accidents, four were classified as code 2. In one of them, the recreational games of a supermarket in Comas were burned.

Most were at homes due to fireworks or Christmas lights that caused short circuits.

The ‘men in red’ also attended more than 40 traffic accidents
