Rumors have long been linked regarding the continuation of the franchise Mortal Kombat. The one currently called Mortal Kombat 12 has been talked about for months. In particular because of Ed Boon, creator of the franchise who had fun with the nerves of the fans by teasing both MK12 et Injustice 3. Another extremely popular and anticipated game. But after months of rumors, it is indeed a Mortal Kombat which will happen this year and a huge reveal will be made tomorrow Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Mortal Kombat 12 or 1, it doesn’t matter, the license will transform
Mortal Kombat has become THE best-selling fighting game franchise of all time ahead of giants like Tekken and Street Fighter, both of which will have a new episode this year too. The versus fighting will therefore make the fists speak in 2023 and that’s good. But where the competition will come back for a sequel, Mortal Kombat might just take everyone by surprise.
Since its last teaser, the game has indeed hinted that it would be more than just a sequel. The announcement of the day also assumes it and the official Twitter account has even lost its banner, its profile photo and its description, leaving space like a big bang. Moreover, a generally well-informed insider had confirmed that the game would not be called MK12 several days ago by even unveiling different versions of the game, including an overpriced Kollector.
Little info but already characters on the run?
Yes, obviously the next game would actually be called Mortal Kombat 1 and would therefore present itself as a kind of reboot. Which may not please fans who were already hoping for a twelfth episode and a sequel to the MK11 timeline. It now remains to define the proportions that this potential reboot would take. Is this a lore reboot? A kind of Remake of the first opus? Or an overhaul of the universe and game mechanics? Good questions.
