Youssoufa Moukoko’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season. BVB wants to extend, but has to assert itself against more solvent competition. So far, the 18-year-old has hesitated to put his signature. According to ‘Bild’, Dortmund now offers a total package worth 40 million euros.
Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke says about the different salary expectations of both parties at ‘Sky’: “It is legitimate that he (Moukoko, Ann. d. Red.) is now trying to get a good position for himself. But it is just as legitimate that we have our ideas. If this is not congruent, the cooperation will not be continued. That is the ultimate consequence, which can also happen.”
But the BVB boss also adds: “Of course we hope that he stays with us.” In any case, Moukoko will not be extended out of solidarity because of the many years of sporting training, says Watzke: “Gratitude is not a currency in professional football. But I won’t blame anyone for that either, because the business is just the way it is.”
Numerous interested parties
FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are ensnaring Moukoko, who has had 12 goals in 22 games this season to secure his World Cup ticket. According to ‘Sky’, Chelsea’s interest has now waned.
Advisor Patrick Williams was at the Dortmund training camp in Marbella today, Wednesday, for talks. Perhaps there is now a quick decision. BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl recently pushed for such a move.
