At least one person is said to have entered a bank building located in the central parts of the city and opened fire there, the local police wrote on Twitter.

The incident was described on Monday morning local time as ongoing. According to CNN, at least six people have been injured, one of them a police officer. Unconfirmed information also claims that the shooter was rendered harmless.

Police urge the public to stay away from the area. Even the federal FBI confirms that it has personnel on site participating in the attempts to stop the shooting.

Witnesses who managed to get out of the building tell a local TV company that they heard gunfire inside the premises. Images show a large number of police vehicles and ambulances carrying away injured people.

“Pray for all affected families and for the city of Louisville,” wrote Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear on Twitter. The governor is said to be on his way to the scene.
