The news came as no surprise to many observers, but it is still sad: E3 2023 was canceled after Ubisoft and Sega withdrew their participation. Nintendo wasn’t on board from the start anyway, just like Sony and Microsoft, the group probably prefers to inform the fans in a direct stream. This is understandable, but could also mean the final death knell for the event, the importance of which was dwindling anyway and which lost further relevance due to the corona pandemic. It remains to be seen what effects this will have on Gamescom in Cologne. Yes, it’s understandable that Nintendo and Co. don’t want to pay extortionate stand rents and organize a trade fair if you can reach the fan community more easily and cheaply.

However, it would undoubtedly be a shame if the Gamescom concept were soon to be a thing of the past, for years the event has served as a fixed point in the cosmos of many gamers. You meet friends, watch new games, breathe in the fair atmosphere, dress up, meet new people and get goodies. How about you – are you worried about Gamescom? Or are we painting the devil on the wall here?
